2nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – C

Greeting

Blessed be the Lord Jesus,

the source of our gladness and rejoicing.

May his Spirit of consolation be always with you.

Introduction and  Litany of Praise

In today’s Mass we hear of the first great sign that Jesus worked – at Cana in Galilee. We are surrounded by countless signs of God’s love every day. But do we recognize them?   (pause)

Lord Jesus, you reveal your love through those who love and care for us.

Lord, have mercy.

Lord, you alone can satisfy our longing for true happiness.

Christ, have mercy.

Lord, your presence brings us joy,

like the joy when people gather at a wedding.

Lord, have mercy.

Opening Prayer

A      From our earliest days, O God, you call us by name.

Make our ears attentive to your call,

and our spirits eager to respond,

so that, having discovered you in Jesus,

we may inspire others to love as he loved.

Grant this through the same Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God for ever and ever.  AMEN.

B      O God of salvation,

as we assemble to celebrate the Lord’s Day,

let your holy church experience once again

the transforming power of your love.

Make us your faithful stewards,

ready to do whatever Jesus tells us.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God for ever and ever.   AMEN.

                                      GENERAL   INTERCESSIONS

P       Confident that we can expect the same compassion that was shown by Jesus to the embarrassed newlyweds at Cana in Galilee, we make our prayers to our heavenly Father.

CM      Our response is:       Lord, give joy to your people.

Please repeat:

1          For all who are preparing for marriage….   and for all couples who are struggling under particular tensions at this time.

Lord, hear us:

2          For married couples whose dreams have turned sour and whose relationships have become dull and lifeless;  that in their need they may seek the help of Jesus.

Lord, hear us:

3          For all who feel life is hopeless, joyless and meaningless:  that Christ may enter into their lives and transform them with his love.

Lord, hear us:

4          For those who have never tasted the wine of love and joy in their lives.

Lord, hear us:

5          For each of us assembled here today.  (pause)

May we all attend to Mary’s advice to “Do whatever he tells you”.

Lord, hear us:

[The Presider may add a Petition that is local / relevant]

P       Loving Father, you give the Spirit to live and work among us.

May we use your gifts wisely

in the service of our neighbor and for the glory of your name.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  AMEN.

Prayer over the Gifts

Faithful God,

you invite us to experience your love

in this meal of friendship

at the table of your Son Jesus.

He will break for us the bread of life

and pour out for us the wine of joy

that we may be encouraged to share our gifts with others.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.   AMEN.

Invitation to the Lord’s Prayer

A       The Mother of Jesus instructs us to “Do as he tells you”.

He tells us to pray and so we join him in his prayer:

B       Invited to the Lord’s table

and united by his Spirit

we pray now to our loving Father:

Deliver us, Lord

Deliver us, Lord, from every evil

and grant in our day the peace of Christ,

which is the work of your Spirit.

In your mercy keep us free from sin

and protect us from all anxiety

while the Spirit leads us in joyful hope

toward the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

Lord Jesus Christ,

through your Holy Spirit

you bind your holy people in one body.

May the various gifts that we have received

help us to build up in peace

a Church that serves your kingdom

where you live for ever and ever.

Sign of Peace

The Spirit of truth brings us a peace that the world cannot give.

So let us now give to one another a sign of that peace.

Invitation to Communion

Isaiah proclaims:

“On this mountain, God will prepare a banquet.

The finest food and the best wine will be served for all to partake.

On that day it will be said:

‘Behold, this is our God.’ ”

Blessed are we who are invited to this banquet.

Prayer after Communion

Source of life and goodness,

your love has been poured into our hearts

through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Enable us to love one another, not in word,

but in truth and action, just as he has commanded us.

Grant this through Christ, our Lord.  AMEN.

Blessing

May God the Father bless you with generous love.

AMEN.

May God the Son change you with the power of his love.

AMEN.

May God the Holy Spirit fill your hearts with love.

AMEN.

And may the blessing of God,

+  the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

come down upon you and remain with you for ever.

AMEN.

Dismissal

Our celebration is ended. Go in peace… and continue to rejoice in the Lord.
