EASTER SUNDAY – YEAR ABC

Greeting

Jesus is risen! Jesus is alive!

Let us then feast with joy in the presence of the Lord.

And may this joy be with you!

Introduction and Litany of Praise

A
This is a day for celebration.
This is the day when Christ our Brother broke the chains of death
and rose in triumph from the grave.
He did this, not just for himself, but for all of us.
He wants us to share in his victory over sin and death.
Let us pause to reflect on this great mystery. (pause)

Lord Jesus, through your resurrection you free us from our sins.

Lord, have mercy.

 Lord Jesus,
through your resurrection you free us from the power of death.

Christ, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, through your resurrection you enable us to live
in the freedom of the children of God.

Lord, have mercy.

B
Jesus is risen! Jesus is alive!
This is the day the Lord has made! Let us be glad and rejoice!
We can celebrate Easter with deep joy… the same joy which transformed the dejected friends of Jesus and transformed their lives   when they realized that he had overcome death and would live with them forever.

Lord Jesus, you are the Christ, the Paschal Lamb,
who has been sacrificed.

Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you have been raised by the Father to new life.

Christ, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you raise the dead to new life in the Spirit.

Lord, have mercy.

Gloria

Opening Prayer

Morning & Noon – only

A
God of undying life,
by your mighty hand
you raised up Jesus from the grave
and appointed him judge of the living and the dead.
Confer on all the baptized
the power flowing from his resurrection,
that we may proclaim near and far
the pardon and peace you give us.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
first-born from the dead,
who lives with you now and always
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

B
Lord God, this is the day that you have made!
Raising Jesus from the dead,
and raising us with him,
you have fashioned for yourself a new people,
washed in the waters of baptism,
sealed with the gift of the Spirit,
and invited to the banquet of the Lamb!

Prepare our hearts, Lord,
to celebrate this Easter festival with great joy.

We ask this through your Son,
our Passover and our Peace,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.   AMEN.

Evening  [Especially when the gospel from Luke 24:13-35 is read]

O God of wonders,
you made this day for joy and gladness.
Let the risen Lord abide with us this evening,
opening the Scriptures to us
and breaking bread in our midst.

Set our hearts aflame and open our eyes,
that we may see in his sufferings
all that the prophets foretold
and recognize him at this table,
the Christ now entered into glory,
who lives with you now and always
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

Responsorial Psalm       (in lieu of Ps. 118)

This is the day. This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made… that the Lord has made. We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in Him… and be glad in Him.

For this is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in Him. This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made.

Alive, Alive.

Alive, alive, alive forever more, Our Jesus is alive, alive forever more.

Alive, alive, alive forever more, Our Jesus is alive forever more.

Sing Hallelujah, sing Hallelujah, Our Jesus is alive forever more.

Sing Hallelujah, sing Hallelujah, Our Jesus is alive.

Second Reading

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Colossians. (Col. 3. 1-4)

If you have been raised with Christ,

seek the things that are above,

where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Set your minds on things that are above,

not on things that are on earth,

for you have died,

and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

When Christ who is your life is revealed,

then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

The word of the Lord.

Alleluia:

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Christ, our Paschal Lamb has been sacrificed;

let us feast with joy in the Lord.

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Gospel.

Homily.

After the Homily, the CM announces:

Please STAND.

CM    It is appropriate that we all hold lighted candles during the Renewal of our Baptismal Vows.

Ideally, 14 Greeters and Collectors will be present.

Before the Mass begins they assign themselves to designated (marked) positions so that they will know where to begin lighting.

There are 3 sets of benches in the church.

 Set Three: 2nd Door to Main door:      10 benches = 2 G&Cs.

Set Two:   middle door to 2nd door: 14 benches = 2 G&Cs

Set One:   Sanctuary to middle door: 17 benches = 3 C&Gs

As soon as the CM announces that candles will be lighted, the assigned Greeters and Collectors, with unlit candles, come forward to the base of the Sanctuary. Meanwhile, the Presider lights the Candles of 3/4 Sanctuary Assistants who proceed to the base and light the candles of the G & Cs.

The SAs can help to spread the light, if needed. E.g. Confessional side.

It is essential that the G & Cs follow the plan that has been devised for them. Better still, if they could practice around 10 days before Easter Sunday. Even just a few leaders for each Mass.

                          Renewal of Baptismal Promises

 Part #1 – The Promises

P       Dear friends:

Through the paschal mystery

we have been buried with Christ in baptism,

so that we may rise with him to a new life.

Now that we have completed our Lenten observance,

let us renew the promises we made in baptism

when we rejected Satan and his works,

and promised to serve God faithfully

in his holy Catholic Church.

And so:

The Assembly’s responses are flashed on the screen.

P       Do you reject Satan?

A       Yes, I do.

P       And all his works?

A       Yes, I do.

P       And all his empty promises?

A       Yes, I do.

Then the priest continues:

P       Do you believe that we human beings are made intelligent and free in the image and likeness of God?

A       Yes, I do believe.

P       Do you believe that we are responsible for protecting and caring for the earth and all of God’s creation?

A       Yes, I do believe.

P       Do you believe that God sent His beloved Son Jesus, to show us the depth of His love, and reveal to us how we become fully human and alive – as he was – in and through our loving and serving one another?

A       Yes, I do believe.

P       Do you believe that Jesus was raised by the Father… and that he has brought life and love to us all?

A       Yes, I do believe.

P       Do you believe that the Church is the community of disciples of Jesus, united in faith, hope and love for the life of the world?

A       Yes, I do believe.

P       Do you believe that the Spirit of God is alive and active in our world and in all its peoples, challenging us to bring unity where there is division, healing where there is brokenness, calling us from selfishness and sin in order to renew the face of the earth?

A      Yes, I do believe.

The CM now says:

CM    Please extinguish your candles….. and remain standing for the Sprinkling of Water Ceremony.

Part #2 – The Sprinklng

3 EMHCs now proceed to the Baptistery, take their basins and sprinklers and come to the base of Sanctuary.

P     God has given us new birth through the waters of Baptism and the outpouring of the Spirit.

Presider descends and receives his basin etc from a SA. He sprinkles one Side of Nave; an EMHC does the other; the other two EMHCs cover the sides near walls.

CM    Please make the ‘Sign of the Cross’ while you are being sprinkled with water.

The Choir, who has been humming in the background, gradually raise the volume and sing the words of ‘NEW LIFE’. Or ISANG PANANAMPALATAYA.

When the Presider (and EMHCs) has returned to the Sanctuary the CM says:

 CM      Please BE SEATED.

The CREDO is omitted since it has been incorporated in the earlier Rite.

Prayer over the Gifts

All holy God,
You invite us to stand around your throne and worship you,
for our robes have been washed clean in the blood of the Lamb.

Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed,
and is risen from the dead.

You gather us around this table
to celebrate the Easter meal of Jesus, your Son.

We set before you this bread and wine,
gifts of your holy people.

Bring to perfection
the saving work you have begun in us.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Preface   #1 of EASTER

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord out God.

It is right and just.

P       It is truly right and just,

our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks,

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God.

We praise you with greater joy than ever

on this (day) (night),

when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.

He is the true Lamb who has taken away the sins of the world.

By dying he destroyed our death;

by rising he restored our life.

And so, overcome with joy,

every land, every people exults in your praise;

with all the choirs of angels in heaven

we proclaim your glory

and join in their unending hymn of praise:

Holy, Holy …

The Presider selects an appropriate Eucharistic Prayer

Intro to the Our Father

United by baptism with Jesus, our risen Lord,
let the joy of the Spirit cry out in us
as we pray the words of Jesus:

Deliver Us

A      Deliver us, Lord, from every evil:

from darkness, from sin;

keep us faithful to our alleluias,

as we wait, joyful in hope,

for the final coming

of our risen and triumphant Lord, Jesus Christ.

B      Deliver us, Lord, from every evil

and grant us in our day

the peace which our Lord Jesus brought to the apostles

on Easter Day.

To make us into a new people

keep us free from sin

and strengthen us to face the trials of life,

as we await in hope the coming in glory of the Risen Lord,

our Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

A       Lord Jesus, Christ,

on that first Easter Day

while the disciples were gathered behind closed doors

– gathered in fear and shame –

you came and stood among them and said,

“Peace be with you”.

Give us the same joy that you gave to them

and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom

where you live for ever and ever. AMEN.

B       Lord Jesus Christ,

on the evening of that first Easter

you appeared to your frightened and disheartened disciples

and said to them:

‘Peace be with you.’

Then you showed them your wounded hands and side,

and they were filled with joy.

Grant that we who have heard the message of Easter,

may enjoy the peace and unity of your kingdom

where you live forever and ever.

A & B                  May the peace which Christ brought to his apostles

be with you always.

Exchange of Peace

Let us now offer the Master’s greeting to one another.

Today in Russian Churches, Christians greet one another like this.

One person says: Christ is Risen!

And the neighbor replies: Christ is truly risen!

Let this be our greeting to one another today.

Optional Prayer to accompany the Breaking of Bread

On that first Easter Day

While Jesus was at table with them,

he took the bread and blessed and broke it,

and gave it to them.

And their eyes were opened

and they recognized him

in the breaking of bread.” [Luke 24:30-31]

Invitation to Communion

A      This is Christ, the true Lamb who was slain,

who died so that we might live.

Blessed are we who have been invited

to the Banquet of the Lamb.

B      This is the risen Lord,

our Paschal Lamb that was slain.

Happy are we if we can recognize him

in the broken bread and shared cup

that we receive at this altar-table.

Prayer after Communion

A       God of Peace,

we thank you for Jesus,

whom you raised from the dead.

He who loves us is alive.

Give us the eyes of faith

to see that all we are

and all we do

has a meaning and a purpose.

By your Holy Spirit,

keep us faithful to our baptismal promises,

and raise us up on the last day

with Jesus, your risen Son,

for he is Lord for ever and ever.   AMEN

B       Father, we have heard the good news;

‘Jesus your Son is risen’ !

We who have been buried with him in the waters of Baptism

have been raised with him to new life

and have eaten at his table.

By the power of your Spirit,

keep us faithful to our baptismal promises;

make us into a new people

and raise us up on the last day

to be with Jesus, your Risen Son,

for he is Lord for ever and ever.   AMEN

CM    Please be seated
