4th SUNDAY OF EASTER – B

Greeting

There is no other name by which we are saved
than the name of Jesus Christ.
May the crucified and risen Lord Jesus be always with you.

Introduction and Litany of Praise

A       Of all the images we have of Jesus, one of the loveliest is that of the Good Shepherd. It was the one Jesus used about himself.

How well do we trust…. and how closely do we follow him?   (pause)

Lord Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd;
you call each of us by name.

Lord, have mercy.

You are the Good Shepherd;
You lay down your life for your sheep.

Christ, have mercy.

You are the Good Shepherd;
You lead us to everlasting life.

Lord, have mercy.

B       Jesus, the Good Shepherd, calls each of us by name that we may follow him to a life of holiness. Have we listened to his voice?

Let us now examine ourselves.   (Pause)

Lord Jesus, you have shown us the way to the Father:

Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you have given us the consolation of the truth:

Christ, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd,
leading us into everlasting life:

Lord, have mercy.

Opening Prayer

A
O God of lasting love,
fulfill your plan of salvation
to gather into one fold
the peoples of the whole world.

Let everyone on earth
recognize your Son as the Good Shepherd,
who freely lays down his life for all
to take it up again in glory.

Grant this through Jesus Christ,
the resurrection and the life,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.

B
What love you have given us, O God,
that we should be called your children,
born again in Christ by water and the Spirit !

What love you have lavished on us
that we should be gathered into the fold of the Shepherd
whose life is given freely for us !

Keep us safe, make us one,
and gather all your scattered children
into the fold of this Shepherd.

We ask this through the Lord Jesus,
our Passover and our Peace,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God for ever and ever. AMEN.

                                             GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

P       Let us bring our needs before God, confident that he will listen to us because we are his children.

CM      Let our response be: Lord, hear our prayer.

  1. For parents, priests, and all lay leaders in our Christian communities   (pause) that they may be true shepherds to those entrusted to their care. We pray:
  2. Throughout the world today, our Church prays for priestly vocations. (pause) May the youth of our parish hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, calling them to serve God’s family in this special way. We pray:

P         Heavenly Father, as we journey through life, help us to hear your voice, obey your commands, and follow in the footsteps of Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Prayer over the Gifts

God of everlasting love,
Your Son, Jesus, has laid down his life for us.
He will give himself to us
in these signs of bread and wine.
May we recognize that he is the cornerstone,
that there is salvation in no one else,
for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved,
than that of Jesus Christ the Lord. AMEN.

Intro to the Our Father

The Father has lavished such love on us,
that we should be called God’s children –
children who cry out in confidence:

Deliver Us

Deliver us Lord, from every evil,
and preserve us from those who would lead us astray
and tempt us to sin.
Protect us in time of trial
so that we can recognize the voice of our Shepherd
and walk behind him –
the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace

Lord Jesus Christ, you said:

“I am the good shepherd.
I know my own and my own know me.”

May we all listen to your voice
and be united as one flock,
as you lead us into your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever.

May the Peace and the Joy of the Risen Lord be with you all

Exchange of Peace

Let us greet those whom God has made our brothers and sisters.

Invitation to Communion

This is Jesus the Good Shepherd
who laid down his life for us.
He calls each one of us by name
to come and be nourished at this altar-table.

Prayer after Communion

Father, we have listened to the voice of your Son
and have eaten at the table you spread before us;
our cups are overflowing.

May we keep close to him
and follow him wherever he leads us,
so that we may never hunger, never thirst,
and never be lost.

Grant this in the saving name of Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Solemn Blessing

May Jesus, the true shepherd, lead you to pastures of peace.

AMEN.

May he always seek you when you wander from his presence.

AMEN

May you strive to be like him and one day see him as he really is.

AMEN.

May our loving God bless you,

+   Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

AMEN.

Dismissal

Our celebration is ended.
Following the example of the Lord Jesus,
let us be loving shepherds to one another.
