From God the Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ,
peace and love be with you.
Introduction and Litany of Praise
We are gathered here in the Lord’s name.
We are doing what he asked his apostles to do:
waiting in prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit. (pause)
Lord Jesus, your words bring joy and hope to all who wait:
Lord, have mercy.
You consecrate us in the truth:
Christ, have mercy.
You let us share in the life of the Holy Spirit:
Lord, have mercy.
Father most holy,
look upon this people
whom you have sanctified by the dying and rising of your Son.
Keep us one in love
consecrate us in your truth,
that the new life you have given us
may bring us to the fullness of joy.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
the first-born from the dead,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.
P We are an Easter people, strengthened and renewed by the Word of God. Now we bring before our God our own needs and those of all the church.
CM Our response is:
Consecrate us in truth.
- For those called to be teachers and preachers in the church. (pause) Like Matthias, may they be people of integrity and faith, eager to witness to the good news about Jesus. We pray:
- For a commitment to live by the truth. (pause). May we always be true to God’s name, constant in using gospel teaching and the example of Jesus to resist fake-news, false values and the unjust systems in our world. We pray:
- That the people of God, sent into the world to bear witness, may be protected from the Evil One and be sanctified in the truth. We pray:
- That worldly powers who hate the word of truth may be touched and transformed by the Lord who knows every heart: we pray:
- That this parish community may bear witness that because God has loved us, so we must love one another.
P God of love, consecrate your people in truth. Help us to love as you command, so that we may share your joy to the full. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Prayer over the Gifts
Creator God, you are the vine grower.
You have pruned us like branches to make us bear more fruit.
You have already cleansed us
by the word that you have spoken to us.
May the wine in this cup of blessing
be a reminder of your pruning action in our lives
so that we may become more life-giving to others.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.
Intro to the Our Father
Because we have received the Spirit of adoption,
we dare to pray:
Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and grant us in our day
the gift of always being united with your Son Jesus,
so that we can bear fruits of peace,
as we wait in joyful hope
for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Prayer for Peace
Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles:
“Separated from me you can do nothing;
united with me you can bear much fruit..’
Strengthen the bonds that unite us
with you and with one another
so that we can enjoy the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever.
Exchange of Peace
We can show that God’s Word has taken root within us
by sharing a sign of peace with each other.
Optional prayer to accompany the ‘Breaking of Bread’
This bread that we break is the bread of life.
It is the sign of Christ’s body;
it is the sign of our unity with one another
in the Spirit of love and peace.
Invitation to Communion
God is love,
and those who abide in love abide in God,
and God in them.
Blessed are we who are invited to this table of life and love.
Prayer after Communion
God of all fruitfulness,
we thank you for giving us Jesus Christ as our food and drink.
We know that he abides in us by the Spirit he has given us.
Separated from him we can do nothing.
Enable us to love one another, not only in word,
but in truth and action, just as he has commanded us.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, the Lord. AMEN.
May Christ the risen Lord abide always in our hearts.
May we remain united to him and to one another.
Living in the warmth of the Holy Spirit,
may we speak out boldly in the name of the Lord.
May our compassionate God bless you,
+ Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Go in peace,
stay united with Christ,
and serve him in one another.
